Three institutions carry the Metakosmos university programme: the University of Technology Sydney, the Kolling Institute, and CSIRO alongside the Department of Defence.

## INSTITUTIONS

The University of Technology Sydney has collaborated on digital optimisation of spacesuit form and fit, supported by a NSW Space Research Network Seed Project grant, drawing on geometry processing, mesh parametrisation and digital fabrication research.

The Kolling Institute has collaborated on musculoskeletal research and wearable technology for extreme environments, and served as a Kernel360 beta testing partner.

CSIRO and the Department of Defence have engaged since 2020 on production process improvement.

## RESEARCH PLACEMENTS

The Australian Postgraduate Research Intern Network places PhD researchers on component and technology development for defined periods.

Specialist capability is required intensively and intermittently. A design phase needs depth in mesh parametrisation; a later phase needs materials characterisation.

## PEER REVIEW

Work from these engagements has included research published in Elsevier's Carbon journal.

Internal test reports record that a company measured something. Peer-reviewed publication records that reviewers without commercial interest examined the method.

## PATH TO PRODUCT

Research findings enter product development through the [PROVE apparatus](https://www.metakosmos.co/prove). Materials, sensing methods and design approaches are characterised on [test rigs](https://www.metakosmos.co/prove/suitrix), evaluated on [human surrogates](https://www.metakosmos.co/prove/synhum) and modelled in [digital twin environments](https://www.metakosmos.co/prove/synsuit).

The programme covers medical research, materials science, human factors and data science.

## WHAT PARTNERS RECEIVE

Research partners gain an engineering problem carrying real constraints on cost, schedule, manufacturability and qualification, and access to industrial datasets in extreme environment human performance that are otherwise scarce.
