Four partnership categories run across the Metakosmos research and industry programme: medical research, engineering research, government science agencies, and industry systems integration.

## MEDICAL AND PHYSIOLOGICAL RESEARCH

The Kolling Institute, one of Australia's oldest medical research institutions, collaborates on musculoskeletal research and wearable technology for extreme environments. Academic Director Professor James Elliott has described the alignment between the institute's muscle mapping work and the company's objectives. The institute later served as a beta testing partner for Kernel360.

## ENGINEERING AND DESIGN RESEARCH

The University of Technology Sydney has worked with Metakosmos on digital optimisation of spacesuit form and fit, drawing on research in geometry processing, mesh parametrisation and digital fabrication. The work was funded under the New South Wales Space Research Network's Seed Project Program.

## GOVERNMENT SCIENCE AGENCIES

Metakosmos has worked with CSIRO and the Department of Defence since 2020 on production process improvement.

## INDUSTRY AND SYSTEMS INTEGRATION

A memorandum of understanding with Digilogic Systems, an Indian aerospace and defence systems integrator, was signed in November 2023. A partnership with Neurom Innovations covering artificial intelligence, digital twins and spatial computing was announced in February 2025.

## RESEARCH PLACEMENTS

Metakosmos works with the Australian Postgraduate Research Intern Network, placing PhD researchers on suit component and technology development. Research from these engagements has included work published in Elsevier's Carbon journal.

Research activity is coordinated through [LABS](https://www.metakosmos.co/labs). Findings enter product development through the [PROVE validation apparatus](https://www.metakosmos.co/prove), where materials, sensing methods and design approaches are characterised before qualification.

## WHY PARTNERSHIP OVER RECRUITMENT

Specialist capability is required intensively and intermittently. A design phase needs research depth in one discipline; a later phase needs another. Permanent specialists in each area would be under-utilised between phases.
