Australia's Advanced Strategic Capabilities Accelerator leads the national component of AUKUS innovation challenges, working with the UK Defence Innovation Organisation and the US Defense Innovation Unit. It has invested over $125 million in contracts with industry and academia under its emerging and disruptive technologies programme.

## WHAT CHALLENGE FUNDING COVERS

Challenge-based funding converts a technical concept into a demonstrated capability under representative conditions, on a timescale of months.

It also supplies a defined military requirement, access to operators who can assess whether the technology helps, and exposure to defence evaluation standards.

## WHAT IT DOES NOT COVER

The transition from demonstration to fielded, qualified, supportable capability is funded separately.

That transition covers full environmental qualification, safety certification, supportability engineering, training development, documentation and production capacity. It typically costs more than the demonstration.

## PARALLEL INVESTMENT

Companies that complete the transition generally built [qualification infrastructure](https://www.metakosmos.co/prove) alongside the demonstration rather than after it.

## REVENUE ACROSS THE GAP

A supplier serving only defence carries the transition on defence funding. A supplier across [four domains](https://www.metakosmos.co/domains) can generate revenue from [industrial](https://www.metakosmos.co/land/industrial-operations), [subsea](https://www.metakosmos.co/sea) and commercial applications during the same period.

The resulting evidence base serves both markets.

## SUBMISSION CONTENT

Accelerator evaluation weights specificity: which operational problem is addressed, what measurement demonstrates improvement, what has been tested and in what environment, and what the transition path looks like.

Programme funding rather than innovation funding carries suppliers through qualification.

## EVIDENCE CONTINUITY

Demonstration data becomes qualification evidence where instrumentation is calibrated and traceable, acceptance criteria were defined before the trial, and configuration records identify the article tested.

Demonstrations run without that documentation are repeated later.
