The [CORE hardware layer](https://www.metakosmos.co/core) carries five configurations: CORE-L for land, CORE-S for sea, CORE-A for air, CORE-X for [space](https://www.metakosmos.co/space), and CORE-T, the liquid ventilation and cooling garment shared across the family.

## COMMON ELEMENTS

Five elements are shared across every configuration: suit integration architecture, modular payload interfaces, bio-instrumentation through the SENSORSUIT base layer, environmental control systems, and the life support architecture framework.

Standardising those makes a new domain configuration a barrier and pressure-layer development rather than a ground-up programme.

## DOMAIN-SPECIFIC ELEMENTS

CORE-S for [subsea operations](https://www.metakosmos.co/sea) requires hard-shell or semi-rigid structural barriers and hydrostatic isolation, addressing compression, inert gas narcosis and high-pressure nervous syndrome at depth.

CORE-A for [high-altitude operations](https://www.metakosmos.co/air) requires lower-body occlusion for G-protection and chest counter-pressure supporting positive pressure breathing. A pressure suit becomes necessary above approximately 50,000 feet; near 62,000 feet, the Armstrong limit, ambient pressure reaches the vapour pressure of water at body temperature.

CORE-L for [land operations](https://www.metakosmos.co/land) requires modular CBRN barrier architecture and thermal regulation, where agent permeation and metabolic heat accumulation are the limiting factors.

CORE-X for space requires vacuum-capable pressure architecture, thermal flux management and micrometeoroid and radiation shielding.

## QUALIFICATION STRUCTURE

A qualified common core carries certification once. Variants are certified against the delta rather than from scratch, which places [reusable validation infrastructure](https://www.metakosmos.co/prove) on the critical path for variant proliferation.

NASA-STD-3001 specifies human-system requirements including suits. It does not specify the mechanical, electrical and data interfaces between suit subsystems.

## SHARED THERMAL LAYER

CORE-T is the exception to domain specialisation. Metabolic heat rejection is a constraint in all four environments, though the mechanism differs: blocked evaporation in encapsulating ground protection, absent convection in vacuum, rapid conduction in water, and trapped heat under pressurised aviation garments.
