The spacesuit industry has been among the most concentrated markets in aerospace. A small number of suppliers, most with heritage reaching to Apollo, served one dominant customer under bespoke development contracts.

## PROCUREMENT CHANGE

NASA moved from developing suits in-house to purchasing moonwalking services. Under that model the provider is encouraged to pursue other commercial customers.

That converts programme-specific articles into products, and admits subsystem specialists rather than requiring every participant to carry the full stack.

## THREE POSITIONS

Incumbent primes hold flight heritage, existing qualification and agency relationships, with development cycles and cost structures built for cost-plus contracting.

New entrants including Axiom Space are building next-generation suits under commercial services contracts. The AxEMU for Artemis surface operations builds on NASA's earlier exploration suit work.

Metakosmos remains pre-qualification for flight systems, behind incumbents on the measure that decides programme selection.

The company's near-term position rests on architecture, validation infrastructure and multi-domain applicability rather than flight heritage.

## DURABLE ASSETS

Three assets carry weight in this category. Qualification evidence creates switching costs, since displacing a fielded system requires requalifying its replacement. Validated physiological models improve with operational use. Cross-domain operational datasets are scarce and expensive to collect.
