AUKUS Pillar II Interoperability Requirements

AUKUS Pillar II describes its objective as advancing priority capabilities across the three nations' militaries that are integrated by design, increasing the interchangeability of systems and platforms.

WHAT THAT SPECIFIES

A capability integrated by design shares data with allied systems without translation layers, presents documented interfaces, and can be substituted between partner militaries without re-engineering surrounding systems.

For a monitoring platform, that requires a documented and exportable data schema and published interfaces.

PROCUREMENT EFFECT

Data rights and interface documentation are now common contract terms in defence and agency procurement.

Kernel360 launched with a modular open architecture supporting third-party integration.

THE HUMAN SYSTEMS GAP

Vehicle and platform telemetry in allied militaries is mature and comprehensively instrumented. Human telemetry, outside a small number of programmes, is not.

Pulse.Joint fuses land, sea, air and space operator state into multi-domain operational intelligence, which requires all four variants to share a schema.

DELIVERY MECHANISM

Pillar II capability development is routed partly through structured innovation challenges. Australia's Advanced Strategic Capabilities Accelerator leads the national component, working with the UK Defence Innovation Organisation and the US Defense Innovation Unit.

SUPPLIER POSITION

Allied supply chain diversification is stated policy and the human systems supplier base is narrow.

Metakosmos holds NCAGE and DUNS registration, has worked with the Department of Defence since 2020, and operates domestic validation infrastructure.

Interoperability claims require demonstration through multi-national exercises, integration trials with allied command systems and published interface conformance.

AUSTRALIAN POSITION

Australia's relevant industrial depth comes from subsea and offshore engineering, remote operations, polar science, defence manufacturing and medical research, alongside access to extreme analogue environments for field validation.
